IMC: Alex I will never forget the day that I received a copy of your book. I was at home thinking, “God did you really call me to do great things in your Kingdom? Because, I sure didn’t feel like it that day.” Then, BAM..”Welcome to Greatness” by Alex Ihama shows up at my door. It is such a great book filled with wisdom, encouragement, and all that one needs to know about being great! Thank you for that Alex!
Now, we hear a lot of talk about PURPOSE. Is it correct to say that our sole purpose as a Christian is to be a witness of our Lord Jesus Christ?
Alex Ihama: The sole purpose of a Christian is to be a witness for our Lord Jesus Christ, without a question. But how? Your life purpose is in the how. Is it to be a praise and worship leader like Israel Houghton or a speaker like me.
We must be careful to not become too religious like the Pharisee who were inconsiderate towards the “Gentiles”. We must be open to the fact that not everyone was born a preacher, and that some were born to be politicians, professors and producers. You can be a witness for our Lord through your profession; honourable profession, I must add.
IMC: Is there a correlation between one’s passion and their purpose?
Alex Ihama: Yes, Tanika. Your purpose is your calling and your passion is the excitement that your purpose should generate. While people often use these words interchangeably, and sometimes rightfully so, passion is like the fuel you need to keep moving. My passion is speaking, while my purpose is to inspire people to discover and fulfill their purpose.
IMC: Could you name three things that hinder most people from walking in their purpose?
Alex Ihama: Upbringing, Laziness and Pride. Out of these, our coaching programs indicate that upbringing is the most prevalent. When parents raise their children in their own ways instead of in the way of the Lord, leaving their children stranded without a purpose it could effect how they excel in life. To parents, I say this: please don’t cripple your child by enforcing your ways instead of the ways of the Lord, by steering them towards a profession of prestige instead of helping them to discover their true purpose. The second reason, is just flat lazy. They procrastinate, complain, make excuses and blame everyone else. Doing these things like complaining are also indicative of the third: pride. Due to the severity of these natural tendencies, I explain them in detail in my book, Welcome to Greatness.
IMC: As a Life Coach, you host LIVE webinars on a regular basis. Who are these webinars for? What can someone expect if they were to tune in?
Alex Ihama: Our School of Greatness webinars are opportunities for people to learn life skills and be inspired to be so much more. Expect information and inspiration, support and success. It’s free because we consider it our contribution to mankind.
IMC: Alex, where do you get your inspiration from?
Alex Ihama: God and His Holy Spirit. I am amazed at how much He is teaching me and often in hard ways. Without HIM, I would have packed up long time ago.
IMC: What book changed your life forever after reading it?
Alex Ihama: The Bible of course, but also inspirational ones like Return to Love by Marianne Williamson and Thinking for a Change by John C Maxwell. Others are Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and As a Man Thinketh by James Allen. I am excited just thinking of these books. I had to write mine, Welcome to Greatness, to ensure it goes down in history as well.
IMC: Lets talk singleness. Would you agree that there is a PURPOSE in one’s SINGLENESS? If so, what do you think that is?
Alex Ihama: The purpose is to prepare yourself for The Lord and the one God has chosen for you – if indeed He has. While we must be hopeful and joyful always, we must be open to the fact that the contrary may be the case.
IMC: Wise words. How can my readers follow you or tune in to your webinars?
Alex Ihama: I am very active on Social Media so I can easily be found on Facebook, Twitters and LinkedIn. For the webinars, we encourage people to register at www.schoolofgreatness.ca or get more info from alex@alexihama.com.
