Congratulations Ursula on your recent marital union.
In My Chambers: Welcome Ursula, I am so happy that you not only met a man you met a Godly man. Can you share how you met Joshua?
Ursula: AT CHURCH! Joshua visited the church I was attending. He eventually joined and became a Youth Leader & Deacon. He actually had the opportunity to interact with my sons who were in the Youth Ministry also. I jokingly say that my sons had something to do with us getting together…LOL
In My Chambers: Gloraayyy! You mean you didn’t have to relocate to find a mate…:) I just love the way God brings people together.
In My Chambers: So here you are in a relationship with Joshua. Was there ever a time during your courtship that you had broken up and gotten back together?
Ursula: WOW, what a question. During our “dating” (prior to courting), Joshua told me that he had to step away for a bit. He said that the LORD told him to step back. It was during that time that I was trying to completely get closure on a previous relationship that had ended in 2008 actually….and he knew it without me even telling him.
In My Chambers: Singing: “What a man, what a man what a mighty good man”..LOL I absolutely love that! He waited until you were TRULY SINGLE!!. In my book Single, Ready & Waiting I let my readers know that single doesn’t always mean available. I am liking Joshua already:)
In My Chambers: How long were you courting before he popped the question?
Ursula: We started courting on his birthday (January 26) and he proposed on my birthday (August 19)…a whole 7 months.
In My Chambers: Ahhh seven is the number of completion. Was this your first proposal? What were your reasons for accepting his proposal?
Ursula: This was not my first proposal. I’ve been married before. I felt that was the right thing to do because we had a daughter. With Joshua it was different. We fasted and prayed about our relationship. He told me that the LORD clearly spoke to him one night in Bible Study. I arrived a little late and he said he was looking down and suddenly a white light shined and he heard HIS voice say – “It’s her, that’s your wife.” When he looked up, I was walking past him down the aisle to my seat.
During our short courting period, Joshua helped me to grow. He’s been saved ALL of his life, whereas, I have not. He knew what I had been through and yet still wanted to be with me. Joshua truly personified unconditional love.
In My Chambers: How long had you been single before meeting your husband? and how did you stay encouraged in your single season?
Ursula: I ended a relationship in 2008, but did not have complete closure. (We still had business ties that needed to be severed. So I took an $11K loss to do so.) I met Joshua in April 2013. He didn’t have the heart to approach me in the church, so he sent me a friend request on FB in June.
There were times that I thought that I should just make things work with my ex…simply because I was tired of being alone. Then I would remember the “mental/emotional abuse” and quickly realized that it was not worth going back to that. I chose to embrace my singleness and not act as if it were a disease of some sort. My Pastors encouraged me ALOT. They even asked me to oversee the Singles Ministry at church and that kept me focused for awhile. But staying in my WORD and just trusting GOD is really all I could do. I knew that I did not want another dead end relationship. I knew that I was tired of choosing…I sincerely desired GOD to choose for me.
In My Chambers: During your time of singleness did you experience any outside pressure from family? How did you handle that?
Ursula: I really didn’t have any pressures. My mother lovingly said that she wanted me to get married and have another child before she gets too old. (I was 40; she was 60.)
In My Chambers: Which scripture encouraged you the most during your waiting season?
Deuteronomy 31:6 – (HE will not fail you or forsake you… GOD is with you ALWAYS.)
Isaiah 40:31 – (Wait on the LORD…be patient, your blessing is coming.)
Proverbs 18:22 – (He finds a wife…not she finds a husband.)
In My Chambers: What words of advice do you have for single women over thirty who may be worrying about their chances of getting married?
Ursula: Surround yourself with single, saved and satisfied women. Eliminate the naysayers and man-haters…seriously.
Be patient. Trust GOD. Take time to learn to love yourself completely. If you can’t love you, how can you expect someone else to love you?
Have a relationship with GOD. Date HIM, court HIM, love on HIM. Once you are able to do these things, I promise that you will be more than ready for marriage.
In My Chambers: Well, there you have it folks. Ursula, thank you so much for sharing with my readers. May God bless your union together and I pray that your marriage will encourage many women and men in waiting.
